South West Scenic Journeys Hit the Headlines

Looe Valley Line

Once seen as the Cinderellas of the rail network and threatened with the chop, the South West's branch lines are now headlining for all the right reasons.

The growth in passenger numbers on these scenic lines has attracted the attention of the BBC with a recent feature on national BBC Breakfast in which the Looe Valley line was highlighted.

The interest from holidaymakers and daytrippers is seen as one of the main reasons for the growth. Visitors inteviewed during the BBC feature commented:

"You see things that you never normally see...it's a real treat for my Grandson"
"We do drive but we prefer to leave the car at home"
"It's cheaper than taking the car and parking - it's a really good idea"

Video Guides Promote Spectacular Journeys

The feature is perfectly timed to coincide with work being done on behalf of the South West Tourism Alliance to promote the scenic journeys of the South West as an experience in their own right. In addition to a webpage, a series of video guides has been produced including one for the Looe Valley Line.

The most recent video features the Jurassic Coast bus which was top feature in the travel supplement of the Telegraph in July which has resulted in new visitors looking to follow the same journey.
