Tourism Awards 2010 - 2011 Open For Entries

Tourism businesses are being invited to enter the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2010-2011, in association with South West Water and Blue Chip Vacations.

The awards celebrate the ‘best in the South West' and aim to promote and reward the leading businesses and individuals in the tourism industry.

They are FREE to enter and there are 15 categories to choose from ranging from best hotel, taste, attraction, customer service to business tourism.

These awards have proven their worth in presenting an opportunity to businesses to showcase their quality not just to the media and customers, but to build morale amongst staff and gain recognition throughout the community.  Entrants need to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service, plus exemplary facilities, along with a commitment to sustainability, recycling and the environment and being accessible to all.

The deadline for entering the South West Tourism Excellence Awards has been extended to 16th June 2010

The regional winners will be put forward for VisitEngland's, National Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2011, for which seven South West businesses received nationwide recognition in April 2010 including two national Gold and five silver awards.

Alistair Handyside, Chairman of South West Tourism said:
"The South West Regional awards are a fantastic opportunity for the many high quality businesses in our region to show just how good they are. The judges are drawn from past winners and industry experts who understand the standard that is required and the challenges facing the Tourism sector. The process of entering the awards is beneficial in itself. All those that take the time to analyse their businesses in order to apply gain a greater understanding of where they are and where they are going. The feedback they gain, whether a winner or not, will help them to continue to improve and grow their business.

The wide range of awards that are judged ensure that, small or large, any quality business stands a chance of winning the coveted Gold or Silver awards. Many of our regional winners have gone on to win nationally, bringing prestige to both their businesses and the region. Former winners testify that these prestigious awards are recognised by customers and the media alike and ensure that those who enter have a means of differentiating themselves in an increasingly competitive and difficult climate."

Chris Loughlin, Chief Executive of South West Water, said:
"We have invested £2 billion over the last 21 years to protect the region's number one asset - its beautiful environment. That has helped underpin a remarkable renaissance for the region's number one industry - tourism. We are proud to celebrate those achievements by supporting awards which recognise the very best the South West has to offer."

Alan Taylor, Managing Director of South West self-catering provider Blue Chip Vacations, said:
"We are exceptionally proud to be sponsoring these prestigious awards during our tenth anniversary year.  From self-catering businesses through to providers of large attractions, we all have a role to play in enhancing visitor experiences, and this year we hope to see new benchmarks that will inspire suppliers of tourism-related services and experiences to even higher levels of excellence."
