How's Business? August 2009

How good was your August? The 'How's Business' research results can help you find out how well you compared to other businesses in your sector and destination. 

South West Tourism will now bring you up-to-date ‘How's Business?' research results every month to help you keep one step ahead of the competition. 

831 businesses throughout the region responded to the recent survey to establish business levels in the tourism sector during August 2009. Key findings showed:

  • The largest proportion of businesses (43%) reported similar visitor levels to August 2008. However, 41% of business reported increased visitor numbers.
  • The average change in visitors was +9%.
  • The largest proportion of businesses (48%) reported increases in turnover for August 2009 compared to August 2008.
    The average change in turnover was +9%.
  • Whilst turnover has increased, the survey also suggests that spend per visitor may well have decreased.
