Latest results from our Value of Tourism 2007 report, reveal visitor related spend is worth £9.3 billion to the South West economy.
Produced by the research department here at South West Tourism, the South West Regional Economic Value of Tourism study draws together data from a number of surveys to show the contribution of tourism to the South West economy. It provides the only comparable estimates of the impact of tourism right down to local authority level across the region.
Malcolm Bell, Director of South West Tourism, said:
"The research indicates that visitor related spend as a whole has increased which is positive news, day trips have also increased by 1.5 million and day trip spend by, £190 million. However, this does not take into account the current economic climate, as it is based on 2007 data. That said, it does give us an indication of spending patterns and the potential gain for the South West during the recent period and it shows tourism has been performing well as it enters more challenging times.
The industry now needs to keep pushing and attracting visitors to the region, as it's not a year to be complacent; we are competing with other domestic markets who are also trying to attract our visitors, so time is of the essence."
